I don't think this area of interview game has been brought up yet on the calls nor in the threads.  We've discussed about the dynamic part of putting the interviewer at ease, actually being qualified and knowing your shit, and the killer instinct/implictly leading but just like talking to girls there are usually a couple other candidates trying to get the job.  They tell you they're looking to make a decision at a date in the next week or end of next month.

This gives us about 1-4 weeks...What do you guys do during this time to get the job?

I usually wait at least 7-10 days before contacting them to show that I'm not impatient but am interested in the job.

If I have their number I'll call to ask about the status.    I've also sent thank you emails the next day but my experience is this is like sending them into a black hole.

I want to know what you guys think about this and if you guys do something similar or something different it could help us out.

Also, this might be like social circle game since one of the places I interviewed at I have a friend who works there in a different department.  My friend already put in a good word for me but this "interview" was me taking two 1-hour tests so basically whether or not I get a round 2 depends on if I did well. I'm not sure what to do with this one since I want to ask my friend to see if he can find out if I did well but they might not tell him since it's private info.

So should I wait a bit and email them through the proper channels or have my friend ask?

Does everybody else get that

Does everybody else get that "next week" or "end of the month" thing? Or is that a blow-off. I'd be more curious as to how your interviews are going. Are you coming off with relaxed charisma? How much natural enthusiasm do you bring to your conversations?

The one where they told me

The one where they told me next week I thought I did pretty well they were comfortable, laughing, explaining what they needed and I showed I knew how to tackle their problems.  It was an in-person.  I I may have been too honest in telling them that I hadn't worked with the exact software/technology they were using but I know the general knowledge and could figure it out.  Does that hurt?  What can you say if you don't have much experience but willing to learn...

It really shouldn't be an issue at all. I wouldn't even really bring it up. And if they do you answer with confidence because you know that ANYTHING is learnable.

You can always be vague and reword things into your favor. Also, you actually can plow in an interview, as long as you come off personable when you change the topic.

Instead of saying you haven't worked with it you could have said, "Absolutely, I'm familiar with (particular software). Is this the main software you use or are there others as well?"

Saying you're familiar is very vague. Since it's an initial interview, they are less likely to probe you any further. But you better read up on that shit in case you get called in for a second interview.
